Autumn light in the Oberallgäu

by Walter G. Allgöwer

In the Trettach Valley near Oberstdorf, autumn lies like a gentle breath over the gently undulating meadows. Here, the Oberallgäu reveals itself not through dramatic peaks and rugged cliffs, but in a landscape full of tranquillity, harmony and quiet beauty. The hills trace soft lines through the greenery, as if nature itself had created a painting with a gentle hand.
On the edge of this vast alpine landscape stands a solitary sycamore maple. Firmly rooted, it rises above the pastures, calm and unhurried, yet becomes the focal point of the view. Its crown still bears the last traces of summer, whilst the first colours of autumn are already beginning to glow in the surrounding woods. It appears like a guardian of the valley, watching the seasons come and go, greeting the morning mists and accompanying the long shadows of the setting sun.
Behind it, dark mountain forests cling to the slopes. Nestled amongst them stands a solitary barn, almost hidden within the landscape. In the meadows, a few cows wander at their own leisurely pace, lending the scene that timeless serenity which makes the Allgäu so special.
At this moment, time seems to flow more slowly. Light and landscape merge into a quiet melody, and the sycamore maple speaks of constancy, of nature’s cycles and of the profound beauty of an autumn day in the heart of the Allgäu Alps.
