Autumnal poetry in the Oberallgäu

by Walter G. Allgöwer

On the outskirts of Oberstdorf, where the moor quietly guards its ancient tales, the pond lies like a breathing mirror between summer and autumn. No wind ripples the surface, and so the world is lost in its own contemplation. Reeds stand like golden brushstrokes on the bank, whilst the first colours of autumn timidly creep into the forests of the Oberallgäu.
The water captures the moment. The trees lean over the still Moorweiher and find a second life in its reflective depths. Green, gold and soft browns blend into a painting that was not painted, but created by nature itself. Every reflection seems like a memory, delicate and fleeting, yet imbued with a timeless beauty.
Here, time seems to flow more slowly. The rustling of the grasses, the distant whisper of the forest and the quiet presence of the water combine to form a melody of tranquillity. Early autumn reveals itself not in splendour and abundance, but in subtle transitions, in quiet changes that only the patient can perceive.
Thus, this landscape lies at the heart of the Allgäu like a hidden poem. Between heaven and earth, between reality and reflection, it speaks of transience and permanence at the same time. A place where the soul finds peace and, for a moment, becomes one with the quiet beauty of Bavaria.
