It was the De Bruyn brothers (wealthy cane sugar refiners from Amsterdam) who set up a beet sugar factory in Zevenbergen under the firm name of De Bruyn & Co. The factory name was "Azelma". The construction of this factory was the occasion for a strong growth of the sugar industry in the southwest of The Netherlands. The building is built in red brick. A beautiful piece of historical industrial heritage.
