Insane how many colours of greens could be seen in Bali; sea green, emerald green, grey green and endless more. And in many places stone statues are hidden like a mysterious fairy tale (I know the Balinese see it differently ;). I especially loved the contrast between those geometric ornaments on the one hand and the organic dense jungle plants on the other.
It started with a sketch on the spot. I like to draw when I travel. In the Netherlands, I made a tojoba plate etching of it and worked it with gouache. With the feel of an old coloured-in print (printed matter), I started looking for a contemporary bright colour. In photoshop, I work on the refinement. This is a variation on Bali_005.
I get very happy with the varied leaf shapes and tree trunks. Especially fun to make the huge palm leaves and ribbed trunks.
