This work shows the baptismal font of the Old Church in Delft. The centuries-old baptismal font is beautifully decorated with sculpted images. The wall organ can be seen in the background. In the Old Church famous Dutchmen are buried, including the painter Johannes Vermeer, Piet Hein and Maarten Tromp.
Delft is best known for the fact that William of Orange resided there from 1572 and was murdered in 1584. Since then, the royal family has traditionally been interred in Delft's Nieuwe Kerk. Delft's nickname is the City of Princes.
