About ‘Barics Dre Newydd’ by Loris Photography

Deep in the heart of an ancient Welsh forest, where the sunlight is filtered through a roof of leaves and the air hangs heavy with moisture and moss, lie the remains of Barics Dre Newydd. Between winding tree roots and gently swaying moss stand the abandoned cottages of stone - silent, but full of memories.

Once, voices sounded here, the clatter of pans, the rhythm of footsteps after a long working day in the slate quarries. Now it is only the birds, the rustling of leaves, and the rain tapping softly on the weathered roof. The windows are empty, like eyes that once looked but now only look back in silence.

The trees have taken back the grounds; branches hug the walls, moss slowly creeps up, as if to soothe the wounds of time. Each stone seems to whisper a story - of hard work, simplicity, camaraderie, and of a life silently dissolved in the fog of the past.

Photographers are irresistibly drawn to this place. Not just to make an image, but to capture a feeling - a melancholy, a mystique. Barics Dre Newydd is not a ruin. It is a memory, hidden in the forest, where it seems time is holding its breath.
