About ‘Beach Ouddorp’ by Maurice Cobben

The origin of the village of Ouddorp is unknown. The stones of the reformed church from 1348 probably come from a much older church. It is possible that the village was founded in the year 900. This makes Ouddorp by far the oldest village of Goeree-Overflakkee. The village church is dedicated to St Martin. In 1418 the village was plundered and set on fire by Duke John of Brabant during the "Hoekse en Kabeljauwse Twisten", and in 1490 by Jonker Frans van Brederode and Lord John of Naaldwijk. Around 1594 there is talk of a "Nederduitsch Reformed Congregation" in Ouddorp. Today the village has six denominations. Ouddorp used to have a number of beautiful estates and farms. Many of these have now been demolished, including De Klepperstee, Heijburg, De Hofdijk and Rustburg. A few others still exist: de Ridderstee at the Westerweg (1786), Vissershoek at the Westnieuwlandseweg (1675), Huis de Klarebeek at the Klarebeekweg (1659), Zeezicht at the Oostdijkseweg (1672), and 't Blaeuwe Huus at the Bosweg (1659).
