In front of the Beachcomber's cottage, sea finds lie like a motley collection of memories: ropes, nets, bottles, pieces of wood and other washes ashore. The foreground is cluttered, full of life and detail, while the cottage behind it stands silent and undisturbed. Each object seems to want to tell something - of distant voyages, rough storms and what was left behind. This picture shows how the sea gives, the island gathers and the Beachcomber's cottage preserves.
