The Beeltjensdreef was built by Jean-Philippe Eugene de Merode in 1722. It connected to the previously constructed avenue to Geel, creating an enormous long avenue that crossed the seigniory of Westerlo from east, to the chapel of the Huypensberg (now located on the Merodedreef) to west, to the Mill in Zoerle (located on the Asberg). This was one of the many avenues that the then Marquis of Westerlo built within his seigniory.
