These polar bears are the third in the series 'Animals are Wild'. I painted this work as I was struck by the beauty of the polar bears and the way they move, hunt, play and watch. I also worry about their existence and hope that they will be on the planet forever. This painting contains many layers and over time I have increasingly 'ordered' it to emphasize the message: they are in danger due to climate change and melting ice caps. At the same time I want to show their beauty in an aesthetic painting, so I used contours to 'protect' them and playful 'dripping' techniques. I am fascinated by wild animals, how they walk, look, the instinct and wisdom they have. I like to look at images, photographs and especially films in which you learn a lot about them and experience their beauty. It is frightening that some animals are threatened. I pay tribute to animals in this series of paintings. Not literally, realistically, but I give a personal interpretation. I show the feeling, pleasure and versatility that the animals give me by following my own 'instinct': painting with flowing brush strokes and special colour combinations. The painting has a direct, lively expression and has a lot of structure, layers and texture.
