Just a bench in the Hague forest, quite alone, forgotten and almost decaying. Nobody wants to use its services anymore and its days seem numbered. If you look carefully, you will find more such forgotten ornaments in the Haagsche bos. The forest was part of a large primeval forest in the early Middle Ages. The primeval forest stretched from 's-Gravenzande to Alkmaar. The counts of Holland used the Haagsche bos, which at the time reached as far south as The Hague, as hunting grounds. The Haagsche forest was probably too reason why the current Binnenhof was built. The Haagsche bos is still an excellent walking area and is under the protection of the Dutch Forestry Commission. Foxes, Badgers, squirrels and lots of birds including the spotted woodpecker are regularly spotted in the forest. For those who seek the peace and quiet of nature and don't want to be too far away, a walk in the forest is definitely recommended. For photographers, the forest is a true paradise as it is also particularly photogenic.
