Architect Santiago Calatrava has designed many an architectural building and gained fame with it. Mons railway station is a fine example. Both in daylight and 'at night, you constantly wonder what you are looking at. Like some kind of open mouth, this station seems to swallow up visitors. It gives me the feeling of a kind of UFO that people disappear into; they come and go.

If you visit Mons and take a stroll on the main square in the city centre, you don't immediately realise that less than 1 km away, another world emerges which is in stark contrast to the atmosphere and architecture of Mons city centre.
