This is my latest painting Berry Pink. But it might as well have been called Berry Blue, that's how much the colours splash off the canvas.
This abstract artwork is made of acrylic paint on canvas. Besides the various layers of thick and thin paint, oil pastels and gold leaf were used. This creates a playful and dynamic image.
The use of colours that are very similar, combined with strong contrasting colours, makes it an exciting work to look at. The dark and light play with each other. And the green, red and teal are also a fine combination.
I always like to let go of a bit of control and just see what happens. So I finished the work by spreading small paint splatters across the canvas. This creates a pattern over which you have no control as the maker. That makes it unique!
The original is a 60x80 canvas, my largest work to date. I took great pleasure in superimposing the layers, looking for the most beautiful composition.
