In the Beulakerwijde, in National Park Weerribben-Wieden, stands this monument, the Beulaker tower. It stands on the spot where in the night of 22nd November 1776 the village Beulake disappeared in the waves. Normally it is surrounded by water, but now it was accessible by foot due to the severe frost. That morning I went out early. It was still almost dark and it froze about 11 degrees. In the tower the sculpture has a wheelwork that indicates the progress of time, which for the village of Beulake was brought to a standstill in the decisive moment. By setting time in motion again, the bell sounds over the water and this remarkable history is heard. Every day again.
