Well, the region was known to him, of course, but the name Saxon Switzerland only came into use when the said elector was already history. As a result, many places in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains were also given new names. The former Oberhüttenmühle and the surrounding settlement, for example, soon (1824) took their cue from the great model and were henceforth called Schweizermühle. This was initiated by the local historian Carl Merkel, to whom we also owe the name Herkulessäulen.
