Boris Grigoriev (1886-1939) was a Russian painter, graphic artist and writer who is best known for his expressive portraits and depictions of Russian rural life. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg and was strongly influenced by the Russian avant-garde and Symbolism. Grigoriev's works combine traditional Russian motifs with modern, often grotesque and expressive elements. His series "The Face of Russia" shows impressive, often gloomy images of ordinary people and rural scenes. He emigrated to Western Europe in the 1920s, where he continued to exhibit actively.
