Botanical simplicity – the thistle head by Marjolijn van den Berg

This photograph: "Botanische eenvoud - de Distelbol" is een botanische macrofoto van een bol van een Kogeldistel. Deze Kogeldistel is nog net niet aan het bloeien. De bol is nog mooi groen van kleur en je ziet de paarsblauwe distelkleur al wel in de topjes een klein beetje doorkomen. Ik vind de distelbol zo op zijn mooist, de spannende "stekelachtige" the texture of the leaves. If you zoom in on the photograph, you can see just how beautifully detailed it is. The focus is on the front of the sphere; the further back you look, the blurrier the sphere becomes. This gives a natural sense of depth to the photograph and, at the same time, lends it a sense of tranquillity.
The background of this photo is mottled. This is because smoke is drifting past behind the globe. It’s very subtle and not obtrusive, but it makes the photo just that little bit more intriguing. I really enjoy photographing with smoke and mist. Sometimes the smoke is a small, subtle addition, as in this photo. But sometimes the smoke is so prominent that it plays a part in the subject of the photo.
This photograph would look stunning as wall art (on ArtFrame or Aluminium, for example) in the bedroom, kitchen, hall or simply above the sofa! It would also look lovely in business settings, such as on the wall in a meeting room, office waiting area or practice room!
