It is wonderful to wander in the old town, through the many alleys, along the canals and the colorful houses. Sometimes you don't know where to look. The atmosphere is also special with all those historic buildings and car-free streets. Admittedly, there are a lot of tourists, but apart from that, it is amazing to realize that people have been walking those same streets with the same houses for centuries.
The gondolas in Venice have also been around for centuries. The gondola in the photo is black in color, but that color was not established until the seventeenth century. Before that, it was common for families to choose colors for their gondolas themselves.
