On a grey day full of drizzle and low clouds, this British Airways aircraft appeared on the horizon. I stood along the runway with my camera protected under a tarpaulin, waiting for that one moment. As the plane glided over the wet tarmac on landing, water splashed up spectacularly on either side of the landing gear. The aircraft's distinctive blue underside, combined with the Union Jack on the tail, provided a nice contrast against the faint weather. It is precisely these conditions that often make for the most atmospheric photographs. The rain adds dynamism and texture to the image, and the shiny surface of the runway subtly reflects the aircraft. For me as a photographer, these are the moments when everything falls together, and even a standard landing suddenly becomes something special.
