Brown cattle against a grand backdrop

by Walter G. Allgöwer

A morning of silence descends upon the gently rolling alpine meadows of the Allgäu. Only the distant tolling of a bell breaks the tranquillity, whilst the Seealpsee glistens like a hidden jewel amongst the mountains. Above it rise the peaks of the Allgäu Alps, rugged and timeless, as if they had preserved the same stories in the wind for centuries.
On a narrow path, a young Allgäu Brown Cow approaches the viewer. Curious and unhurried, it places one hoof before the other through the sun-warmed grass. The soft contours of its coat glow in the daylight, as though the colours of the landscape itself had found a place within it: the green of the pastures, the gold of summer and the light hues of the rocks.
It is a picture of primal harmony. No noise, no haste, just the quiet coexistence of animal, mountain and sky. The bell around its neck rings out like a quiet greeting from the alpine pasture, carried by the clear mountain air across the slopes. As shadows of clouds drift over the peaks and the blue of the distance takes on ever-changing shades, time seems to slow its course.
Here, above the Seealpsee, simplicity becomes precious. The landscape speaks of enduring constancy, and for a moment the young cow becomes a symbol of that tranquillity which can only be found in the mountains.
