About the artwork

The Bugatti Type 57 was a Bugatti car. The car was built from 1934 to 1940 and had a 3.3-litre eight-in-line engine with two camshafts that was derived from the engine of the Bugatti 49. The car was designed by Jean Bugatti, the son of Ettore Bugatti.

There were two versions of the type 57: the 57 and the 57S, with lowered chassis. There was also a version with compressor, called 57C (or 57SC). There were several coachwork available: among others the Ventoux, the Stelvio, the Atalante and the Atlantic (of which only a few were built in 1936). The design of the Atlantic was inspired by the experimental Aérolithe (1935). In 1937 and 1939 a Bugatti 57 won the Le Mans 24-hour race, both years with Jean-Pierre Wimille behind the wheel.
