About the artwork

CCFM is the French abbreviation for: 'Camion Citerne Feux de Forêt Moyen'; freely translated, this is a forest fire-fighting vehicle with medium tank capacity. Twente Fire Brigade has 6 of these vehicles in use in the region at the moment. As mentioned, they are deployed mainly for wildfires. The trucks are manoeuvrable and can drive off road. These vehicles come from France, where they have a lot of experience with natural fires.

The vehicle has a 4000-litre water tank, is equipped for 4 people, has 4 nozzles and can also extinguish while driving by means of a fire monitor operated from the cabin. Furthermore, everything on and about the vehicle is protected against flames and heat rays. For example, the fuel tank is fitted with a heat shield, the brake discs and all pipes are equipped with a fire-resistant material and bumper nozzles protect the tyres from the heat.

Furthermore, the vehicle is equipped with a pipe system with nozzles on the cabin, superstructure, wheels and floor so that the vehicle can keep itself wet if necessary. If men become trapped in a wildfire, they can retreat into the cabin. Among other things, the cabin is equipped with a breathing air system and a roll cage construction, in case the truck rolls over.

The photo was taken in the Netherlands, at a training ground where firefighters specifically practice.
