Capercaillie

by Alexandra Ensmann

This painting, created in acrylic on canvas, combines meticulous attention to detail with a deep **connection to nature**. With its head held high and its tail impressively fanned out, the capercaillie stands amidst a gently suggested woodland landscape. Its proud posture and alert gaze lend it a powerful presence, whilst the soft green and earthy tones of its surroundings radiate tranquillity and a sense of security. Particular attention is paid to the finely rendered plumage: dark shades of blue and black meet a shimmering green breast area, warm brown hues and delicate white markings. The carefully placed brushstrokes reveal the varying textures of the feathers and lend the bird a lifelike, natural appearance. The bright red accent above the eye provides a striking contrast.

In the background, faintly suggested tree trunks blend into the subdued light of the forest. Mossy areas and delicate grasses connect the capercaillie to its habitat – it does not appear as an isolated subject, but as part of a cohesive whole. It is precisely this interplay between animal and landscape that expresses a sense of connection with nature.

The painting invites the viewer to pause and look more closely: at the delicate lines of each feather, the subtle colour transitions and the unique atmosphere of the forest. It is a tribute to the beauty of the local wildlife and to those quiet moments in nature which reveal their special magic through attentive observation.
