Caribbean Grown Path to the Beach - Hockney-style Tropical Landscape by Roger VDB

This portrait shows a beautifully vegetated path leading to a Caribbean beach, where the sea glistens in the distance and a lone palm tree gently marks the horizon. The path, lined by lush green vegetation, invites the viewer to explore the landscape. The composition captures a sense of tranquillity and discovery, as if the moment captures a serene silence of the tropics.

A soft cloud cover is painted above the sea, with subtle shades of white, grey and light blue, enhancing the depth and atmosphere of the landscape. The sun casts a warm glow on the sand and foliage, creating contrasts between light and shadow, giving the vegetation and path an almost tangible texture. The sea subtly reflects the sky light, connecting all the elements into a harmonious whole.

The style is a combination of influences from David Hockney and Pieter de Hooch. From Hockney, the clarity of colours, simplifying forms and playful perspective is evident, while the calm spatial arrangement, subtle play of light and balance between nature and architecture is reminiscent of Pieter de Hooch. Similar works can be found in Hockney's landscape series of sunny coastlines and Pieter de Hooch's intimate outdoor spaces, which focus on observation and harmony.

The result is a tropical portrait of a path to the sea, in which colour, light and perspective come together to create a hushed and atmospheric image.
