The village of Castelluccio lies at an altitude of 1,400 metres on the Pian Grande plateau near the town of Norcia in southern Umbria, along the border with the reggione Le Marche. In autumn, the valley of the plateau sometimes fills with clouds, creating a surreal image of the village amid the rugged Monet Sibillini.
