About ‘Cellebroederspoort Kampen’ by Fotografie Ronald

The Cellebroederspoort is one of the three remaining city gates in Kamper. The Cellebroederspoort is situated on the park side at the end of the Cellebroedersweg. On this side there was no stone city wall, but an earthen wall to defend the city.

It has two large towers with a spire, many ornaments and the city arms.

The gate was moved to its current location in 1465. The original gate stood on the Kampen city canal, the Burgel. The gate was named after a nearby monastery of the Cellebroeders. Around 1616 the gate received its current form. A design in Mannerist style by master builder Thomas Berentsz.
