You would almost casually walk past it, Rotterdam's central library right next to Blaak station. Just stop and let it sink in. The emergency stairwell is beautiful and gives lovely drop shadows when the sun shines. The pipes on the roof and along the facade are nicely accented with a yellow colour. The building was built in 1983 and designed by Jaap Bakema and Hans Boot of the architecture firm Van den Broek and Bakema. The design is reminiscent of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
