This young Chinese girl is totally immersed in playing a 'pipa', a Chinese musical instrument which is a four-stringed plucked lute. It was around the 2nd Century AD that the pipa was mentioned for the first time in Chinese texts. As shown here, the pipa is held vertically whilst being played, though originally it was held horizontally much like a guitar. It is well known for being played as a solo musical instrument
This photo art image is evocative of a sweet and peaceful Chinese Musical interlude. You can imagine the relaxing, floating notes played with mindfulness by the young woman. The image suggests stillness, with the only movement being the musician's left hand.
