About ‘Chocolate Hills’ by Bram de Jong

The Chocolate Hills are the main attractions on the Philippine island of Bohol. In the middle of an almost flat plateau, 1,268 almost identical cone-shaped hills of about 30 to 50 metres high rise in an area of more than 50 square kilometres. They are mostly covered with grass that takes on a brown hue during the dry season. The hills are then somewhat reminiscent of giant chocolate mountains. In 1988, the Chocolate Hills were declared a National Geological Monument by the Philippine government.
