Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències or Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (CAC), or City of Arts and Sciences, is one of Valencia's leading sights. Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias was designed by Santiago Calatrava, a world famous Spanish architect. Construction began in 1989 and lasted for two decades. The building complex is located in the Jardín del Turia (Turia park), right in the heart of Valencia, and covers about 2 km². Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias consists of six different buildings. This futuristic building complex owes its fame to its special architecture. Visitors can stroll through the city gardens, visit the opera house and carry out small scientific experiments in the Science Museum.
