On the western side of Heiloo lies recreation area Noorderneg. This used to be the farmland between Heiloo and Egmond. About 30 years ago, a park was 'laid over' there, and if you look closely, traces of that old landscape can still be seen. Perhaps it is not easy to recognise and that is why this walk has been organised, so you can see the landscape with the guide. Interesting isn't it! Zuiderneg, Noorderneg and Belieslaan together form an elongated walking park on the western edge of Heiloo. Dogs are allowed to run free in most of both parks, see also this map of off-leash areas in the municipality of Heiloo. Noorderneg is open and has plenty of space to play and swim in the Maalwater. Zuiderneg is more densely vegetated and has both swimming water and tinkering ditches. A cycle path runs through both parts and a bridle path also runs through Zuiderneg. The paths of this off-leash area are semi-paved, making it easily passable for wheelchair users.
