The monument to Tünnes and Schäl is located in front of the Groß St. Martin church in Cologne's Old Town.
The two bronze figures represent two fictional characters from Cologne's Hänneschen puppet theatre.
Schäl is a city dweller in a tailcoat and Tünnes is a "bulbous-nosed" farmer from the countryside.
They are as much a part of Cologne as Cologne Cathedral.
They are the work of sculptor Wolfgang Reuter and have stood there since 1974.
Tünnes' nose is already shiny from all the rubbing, which is said to bring good luck.
Two Cologne originals that you should definitely have seen - whether as a monument or in the theatre.
The picture shows the beautiful Red House in the background.
