A coal washing plant a nice word to describe separating coal from other material mined along from the subsoil.
This coal washing plant is part of a large coal mine that is now part of our industrial heritage. Most places in such a laundry effectively look suitably black, as it is quite dark inside everywhere and ceilings and walls are covered in dust from the processed coal.
I chose to incorporate this image as a piece of artwork because there is a very nice light from outside here. The plastic wall distributes the light nicely across the space with the nice shadows of stairs and other steel structures. You notice that the coal dust has attached itself to the walls and other surfaces, but despite this, there are still nice colours coming up from the original rocks.
The image was finished with rather light shades of blue in the shadows and warmer colours of white in the highlights to create a pleasant contrast in the gradients to the midtones. Using a subtle HDR technique, optimal use is made of details in the image. This produces a result with maximum perception in the shadows as well as in the highlights.
As an image, I see this photo ending up in a clean or minimalist environment. The quality of this image can be distinguished in its print.
