The 'old-fashioned' violets are a lasting reminder of a small old painting that used to hang on the wall at our house that intrigued me. It was square with a dark matt frame in which the small painting kept attracting my attention. The way the painter dropped t light on the leaves... So beautiful; those exciting 'accidental' colours of the violets in that picture. But also in real life; we always have pansies in our garden! In all colours. Big and small. Woodland pansies. They sow themselves and you find them between paving stones and in the grass. As far as I'm concerned, they can stay and grow and bloom forever!
