Landcommandery Alden Biesen located in Dilzen in Belgian Limburg. Alden Biesen is the former landcommandery of the Teutonic Order in Rijkhoven, Bilzen and, until 1795, the headquarters of the Biesen bailiwick. Alden Biesen has now been developed into a cultural centre of the Flemish Government. The architectural elaboration of the whole demonstrates a surprising duality between a medieval enclosed moated castle with martial significance on the one hand, and a wide-open classicist-style castle on the other. A magnificent heritage site, an international culture and conference centre, a tourist attraction: the Landcommanderij Alden Biesen in Bilzen is it all. Once built by the Teutonic Order of Knights, Alden Biesen is now one of the largest castle estates in the Euregio.
