About ‘Cranenweyer’ by Maurice Cobben

The Cranenweyer is a reservoir in the Anstel Valley in the Dutch municipality of Kerkrade.

In the mid-20th century, the coal mines in Kerkrade discharged their polluted waste water into the surrounding streams. This was also the case for the Hammijn and Domaniale mines. They used the Anstelerbeek for this. After the mines were closed down, activities were developed to give the area a better appearance. One of those activities was the construction of a hiking area where this reservoir is part of.

Just before Eygelshoven a weir was build in the Anstelerbeek. The lake which was created by this, got the name Cranenweyer. It is the only reservoir of the Netherlands. The lake got its name on August 30, 1974. The Land Registry book Kerkrade of 1771 mentions a piece of land, situated an der Cranen weyer (weyer = pond). It belongs to the domain of Castle Erenstein. The pond itself is situated at the southern part of the present reservoir. The Cranenweyer covers an area of about 20 ha. It has a regulating function (prevention of water nuisance in the former municipality of Eygelshoven and of overloading of the Worm) and a recreational function (location in a recreational area, fishpond with approximately 500 fishing places and former rowing pond).

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
