About ‘Creeping ice on the IJsselmeer’ by Jenco van Zalk

Crushing ice on the IJsselmeer. The colors in the ice is due to pollution of sand and mud. And the combination of a little artificial light from lampposts and the last light of dusk, in which the glow of the sun is just visible.

Photo was taken on a winter evening, just before the sun went down. It was exciting whether it would work. Whether there would be enough light in the sky and whether the ice lay piled up where I thought, at the Afsluitdijk.
Two hours in the car, 15 minutes of reasonable light to take a picture and choose a good composition. Glad that it worked and two hours in suspense to look back on the big screen of the computer if it was indeed as beautiful as I thought, and it is.
