About ‘Crushing Silence’ by Ton de Koning

When I took this vast panoramic photo of Desolation Sound Resort – Okeover Arm, I felt as though I had stepped into another world. The overgrown bank on the opposite side was perfectly reflected in the mirror-smooth water, as if the landscape had doubled itself in an endless tranquillity. The clouds hung low over the dense forests, as if they wanted to embrace the trees, whilst above them the rugged mountain peaks jutted out like silent sentinels. Even higher up, clouds towered once more, as if the sky itself were part of this unspoilt scene.

On the left, the sky was deep blue, a colour that was also reflected in the water, giving the landscape an almost dreamlike, ethereal quality. The whole scene was completely deserted – not a soul, not a boat, not a sign of human presence.

What surprised me most was the absence of sound. No wind, no traffic, no birds – nothing. The managers of the resort, where I stayed in one of the beautiful wooden lodges, told me that it is almost always windless here. It was an unnatural, overwhelming silence, an experience I had never encountered before. A place where time seemed to stand still and where nature enveloped me completely in a deep, almost spiritual tranquillity. A moment I will never forget.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
