Cyclocross poster Modderlijnen – world champions

by Sidney van den Boogaard

A cream sheet with dozens of vertical lines in the colours of cyclocross. Every world champion is one line: a dot per world title, a bar from the first to the last, and the number beneath when there is more than one. On the left the men, 77 world titles since 1950; on the right the women, 27 titles since 2000. The colour is the nation, orange for the Netherlands, blue for Belgium. History reads like a field of posts: the long lines of Erik De Vlaeminck with 7, Albert Zweifel with 5 and Roland Liboton with 4, the single orange dots from Hennie Stamsnijder to Lars Boom, and at the bottom the two orange lines that outgrow them all, Marianne Vos with 8 and Mathieu van der Poel with 8, through 2026. The legend counts per nation: Belgium 33, Netherlands 29, France 14, Germany 10. For the cyclocross family that stands along the course all winter.

This work is part of the Roll of Honour collection: sports history as a data print. Each print takes one sport and turns its whole roll of honour, from the first edition to today, into one graphic image, every name and number cross-checked against two independent sources.

Independent work, not affiliated with or endorsed by any league, federation, team or athlete; the data comes from Wikipedia and other public sources. A great gift for the fan who knows their sport's results by heart, for the living room, the study or the clubhouse.
