In November 1973 the DC-3 of the United States Navy made an emergency landing on the black beach of Sólheimasandur near the village of Vík, in southern Iceland. What was going on was not clear, but all occupants survived the crash. The plane wreckage was never removed, so you can still admire it many years later in the vast volcanic area. The plane is no longer intact, but that makes it even more mysterious!
