The Dafne Schippersbrug is a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal canal in Utrecht. This bridge is a great cycling route between Utrecht city centre on the east side and the Utrecht district of Leidsche Rijn and the town of De Meern on the other side. This bridge lies between the northbound Hogeweidebrug de Meernbrug (The Jacobs Douwe Egberts Bridge) . It is named after Dafne Schippers, the famous Dutch athlete who grew up in Utrecht's Oog in Al neighbourhood (adjacent to the bridge). She officially opened the bridge on 13 May 2017.
The bridge was designed by the engineering firms Uytenhaak, NEXT architects, Bureau B+B urbanism and landscape architecture, Arup, Pieters Bouwtechniek, DWA and Vitruvius Bouwkostenadvies, and built under the responsibility of the contractor company Strabag.
A special feature is that the eastern ramp of the bridge goes over the roof of a school built there at the same time as the bridge. An honourable mention was given to this bridge when it was awarded the Concrete Prize in 2017. A nice short route over the water with a short turning radius on the Utrecht side that allows you to cycle nice and fast. to Utecht.
