With De Vier Gapers, I give a subtle nod to my hometown of Ostend. The original is an acrylic on canvas and available in various formats. Though minimalist in style, it still carries my personal, colourful signature.
It’s not a pure “one-line drawing,” but the minimalist approach definitely inspired me (think: less is more).
This piece was once part of an exhibition where my sister posed in front of it. I later lost her to cancer, and since then this work has held a special meaning for me. In our living room, there’s a photo of her with De Vier Gapers in the background. Every time I see it, it gives me a warm, comforting feeling. It’s also my best-selling piece — perhaps because it radiates simplicity and trust.
With its clean lines and bold colours, this artwork fits perfectly in modern interiors. It makes a strong statement without overwhelming the space, adding a contemporary touch to any wall.
