This picture is part of a series of three. These are austere photographs'which, by emphasising only the still life, sort of splash off the wall.
I was inspired by a sober photo of a vase by photographer Bohnchang Koo from a series featuring old Korean pots in light shades. This vase models the Korean aesthetic sensibility of modest simplicity, austerity and humility. Do we also have such an object in the Netherlands that we are proud of? That's how I came across Delft Blue. Also a Dutch icon but definitely not humble and modest, but neither are we, but an icon of Dutch industriousness.
