This work shows the impressive row of waterfalls Haifoss. Here in southern Iceland, the water falls into a deep gorge with steep walls. The surroundings are a desolate area with volcanic lava fields and little to indicate any human presence. I took the photo in overcast weather and strong winds. Bad weather, in other words, but that suits the atmosphere of this rugged piece of nature. The photo clearly shows the splashing water from the falls being blown away in the stormy wind. The gorge itself impressive and, typical of Iceland, overgrown with bright green moss.
It was a very special experience to stand on the edge of that deep gorge here in the howling wind far away from civilisation. There was no trace of life to be seen and only the sounds of the wind and falling water could be heard. I imagined myself alone in a primordial world that had only just come into being.
