A photograph of five star-formed xenon flash tubes on a tesla coil. The discharges generate a bluish-white plasma in the xenon flash tubes, after which they continue in the air with a violet colour, typical of the nitrogen in the air. The photo is a composite shot composed of several photos to obtain the best effects in terms of discharges and to obtain sufficient sharpness. The high-voltage discharges are very short in duration, so very little light reaches the camera. By necessity, we had to work with a high iso-value and it was not possible to aperture too much. We digitally eliminated the inevitable noise due to the very little light as best we could. The voltage at the tesla coil is around two hundred thousand volts. It is an ideal photo for those who like slightly more science-oriented work or the cool effect of lightning and high-voltage discharges.
