Enclosed by some of the highest dunes in the world lies the Dodevlei or Deadvlei in Namibia. The dunes are constantly changing shape due to the wind blowing from all directions. There is a very dry climate, with daytime temperatures here reaching 50 degrees. In winter, it can be just around freezing at night. In fact, it is so dry that plants and trees do not have enough moisture to decompose.
The nine-hundred-year-old trees are beautiful fossils petrified by the drought. It is a fine example of the untouched beauty of the Namibian desert.
The light on the red sand dunes along with the ancient trees, white ground and bright blue sky make the picture unique.
It looks like it is painted but so it is really a photograph. Photographed in the morning when the light is at its best. The light slowly sliding across the orange sand dunes is a sight to remember.
