When I went to the blossoming Blossom Forest, I was immediately so overwhelmed by the delicate beauty of the Japanese Cherry Blossom (Sakura) that I had to absorb it for a few minutes before taking a step further. What struck me was that the thousands of individual, delicate, Sakura blossoms together formed a soft, almost woolly blanket over the area. All the blossoms started at about the same height, so the pale pink/white flowers formed a sound-dampening blanket in the forest. They set the mood of the forest, giving it a fairy-tale feel. It touched me deeply, leaving me in silent awe.
I decided I wanted to capture this feeling in my photographs. Armed with tripod and a (for me) new technique (focus stacking), I set to work. Meanwhile, I couldn't keep the smile off my face.
In this photo, I deliberately went for a very light image, with the blurred shapes of other blossoms in the foreground and background. For me, this captures the dreamy atmosphere of the Blossom Forest as a whole, while highlighting the delicate beauty of the single blossom.
Passion for photography, where does something like that come from? The beauty is that every photographer will have their own answer. For me it flows out of being able to freeze a moment, step out of the day-to-day rush, and take my time for what I am.. Read more…
