The hawchaffinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) is a songbird from the family of finches (Fringillidae).
The hawfinch can be recognized by its typical call, its strong build, the white wing fields and the white end band on its tail.
In the male, the head and tail are clearly orange-brown and the underside reddish brown. In the female, the plumage is somewhat lighter coloured. The female also has less black around the beak base and the wattles are grey. In the male the wattles are shiny black.
