During sunset and an impending storm, I was on the tidal flats in the northernmost tip of the Netherlands, the Uithuizerwad.
The Uithuizerwad is filled with water by high tide. During low tide, it falls dry and you can walk across it. My grandfather from 1938 told me shortly after taking the photo that as a young man he used to go fishing on the mudflats when it had fallen dry. During the fall dry, many different species of fish are left on the mudflats.
This photo shows me how he walked through the mudflats up to his knees in clay to find fish. Paying attention to nature, is it still safe, will we get back to shore in time for the flood?
I felt small while taking this picture, the beautiful contrasts in the sky and the cracks that take you further and further into the picture.
Can you see it hanging on your wall yet?
