Fabio Taglioni-designed classic Ducati topper. A 2 cylinder engine construction with King-shaft driven Desmodromic valve control. Displacement 864 cc and 65-70hp at 7,800 rpm.
I bought this bike new in 1982 and I am still fascinated by the engaging character of the torquey engine with a top sound. The good chassis in those days was not common with the (much) stronger 4 cylinder Japanese machines!
Unfortunately, the Italian production quality was below standards so the engine was preventively taken apart by Van den Biggelaar at 15,000km to provide the Big-Ends of the connecting rods with oversized rollers. Since then (meanwhile 80.000km) it is only oil changes and valve adjustments. A real "character" machine for the classic engine enthusiast ...
